Lingering sweet and slightly spicy finish. An elegant dram.

Immediately pleasant aromas escape the glass. Comforting! A malty sweetness at first, followed by bees wax, ripe cherries with hint
of pipe tobacco. Then pralines and maltesers. With water some liquorice
appears alongside walnuts and a fine dusting of nutmeg. Medium bodied with a lingering sweet and slightly spicy finish. The sherry cask influence on the whisky is not overpowering. An elegant dram to whet your appetite!

From a modest start in 1817 when Captain Hugh Munro built Teaninich, the distillery would grow into a production giant in the following two centuries. It is one of Diageo’s powerhouses to make single malt for Johnnie Walker. Teaninich is only rarely bottled by Diageo as a single malt, but fortunately a few independent bottlers can get hold of stock among which Saltire Rare Malt. An interesting fact about the production: the mash is not drained through the floor of the mash tun but filtered – a technique not very common in the whisky industry anymore. This method is also applied by Inchdairnie in Fife.
